The new model will be joining the XBUS as another sustainable, eco-friendly electric car boasting a modern retro style.

The new classic Isetta-inspired micro-electric car

A sustainable future

For months now there has been speculation about the "economic restructuring process" announced on Artega's website. Now at last the secret is out - ElectricBrands have acquired 100% of the German vehicle manufacturer.

Driving in urban areas can be expensive, with congestion charging, wasted fuel in congested traffic, and the high cost of parking. Both ElectricBrands and Artega believe that the answer is small electric mobility solutions - lightweight, efficient, and built sustainably.

A lightweight vehicle with the same design principles as the XBUS, it has been able to slot perfectly into the ElectricBrands range.

A Retro Runabout

The most striking feature of this "bundle of fun" is its front-opening door. At just 2.48 metres long and 1.50 metres wide, the KARO can even park sideways! With a range of up to 200 kilometres, the KARO is ideal for urban driving, but can reach an emissions-free top speed of 90-kph.

Final development

The new electric two-seater micro-car is to be launched under a new name in early 2023. Homologation (Type Approval) has already been obtained; so nothing stands in the way of production for this miniature car.

The first cars are to be launched on the market in early 2023, and the first year should see 30,000 cars roll off the production line.

Former Daimler boss, Ulrich Walker, joins as the new supervisory board chairman. Walker will be supported by Kai Andersen and Mirko Konta, who hail from the fields of assurance and product pre-development. Hans Lamprecht joins as Chief Financial Officer, providing the necessary financial expertise for the growing business, and Tom Anliker becomes Chief Marketing & Revenue Officer.

The inevitable production delay

The coronavirus pandemic has had a major impact on ElectricBrands and its supply chain, creating delays at every step of the development of the XBUS. As the world began to emerge from the pandemic, we then saw the global semi-conductor shortage, along with shipping and distribution bottlenecks and labour shortages. All these issues are also being experienced by ElectricBrand's supply chain, thereby limiting the ability to increase production capacities.

As a result, we are no longer expecting our demonstrators until late in 2023, with the first customer orders arriving shortly after that.

This is as disappointing as it was inevitable.

The good news is that, having successfully completed two fully-functional prototypes, ElectricBrands are now more accurately able to assess their production timetable, which should minimise the risk of further significant delays.

Further improvements to the XBUS

ElectricBrands have used the additional time to make further improvements to the XBUS, including to the overall quality, drivetrain, chassis and safety systems. We understand for example that the production XBUS will have significantly improved high-speed driveability.

ElectricBrands have also been able to improve active and passive safety systems in the XBUS, such as a crash box, roll bar and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system.

Finally, ElectricBrands have decided to use the extra time to perform significantly more tests than are prescribed in the L7e homologation class, including crash-testing, and are committing to publish the results afterwards.

The eagerly awaited third prototype, the Camper, is now under construction, and we look forward to announcing its completion soon.

Last week ElectricBrands completed their second XBUS prototype - an off-road box van. With the first prototype off gallivanting around Europe, this will be a vital addition to the XBUS family.

Along with the above pictures, there is also an accompanying video (see below, narrated in German by ElectricBrands' CEO Martin Henne). It is wonderful to see the new prototype in action, and to see some details - like the rear battery drawer.

Update 12th November 2021: Our apologies for the lack of news since the reveal of the first XBUS prototype. This news article is now being published retrospectively to fill in the gaps and more will be posted over the coming days.

The first fully-functional prototype was at last revealed to the public live from the Electric Brands YouTube Channel yesterday, 7th July. But please don't worry If you missed it, the live stream is still available to watch via the above links.

<![CDATA[Trident eBussy receives Electric Vehicle Accreditation]]>https://www.tridentxbus.co.uk/post/trident-ebussy-receives-electric-vehicle-accreditation605a21abeeb60500412baf4cThu, 18 Mar 2021 00:00:00 GMTChristopher RobertsTrident eBussy is delighted to announce that it has been awarded its Electric Vehicle Approved (EVA) accreditation.

The Electric Vehicle Approved (EVA) scheme has been developed by the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) to recognise retailers' excellence in the electric vehicle sector. EVA is endorsed by the Government's Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and Energy Saving Trust.

The scheme, which is co-sponsored by the Government, encourages dealerships to further develop their ability in selling and servicing electric vehicles. It recognises dealers' expertise in the electric vehicle sector and promotes industry standards for the benefit of the consumer.

Energy Saving Trust independently audits individual dealerships to verify that they meet a set of standards covering EV sales and aftersales. These include the customer qualification process, staff knowledge and training, EV demonstration and handover processes as well as availability of EV service bays and charge points on site.

Richard Roberts, Managing Director, commented:

We are delighted to receive our EVA accreditation. Trident Honda has always enjoyed an enviable reputation for its expertise and professionalism. Customers can now feel reassured that this extends to the sale and servicing of their next electric vehicle.

Sue Robinson, NFDA Chief Executive, writes:

I would like to congratulate you on passing your recent EVA (Electric Vehicle Approved) audit. Your business has proven its ability to meet the high standards required to be awarded EVA status.

For more details, please visit the EVA website.

eBussy is short for 'electric bus system'. Its maximum range without charging, with full battery and solar modules is over 600 km. With more than 10 modular and interchangeable bodies, it can be transformed into a convertible, off-roader, box body, station wagon, pick-up or van and camping bus in just a few steps.

Quite simply the eBussy is the most innovative and modular light vehicle in the world.

Richard Roberts, Managing Director or Trident Garages, writes:

We're so excited to be joining eBussy, and playing a part in a revolution in green motoring.
<![CDATA[The Old Forge, Ottershaw ]]>https://www.tridentxbus.co.uk/post/the-old-forge-ottershaw6058da4fb0e04e006dc90835Thu, 17 Dec 2020 18:11:38 GMTChristopher RobertsTrident is delighted to announce that it took over the former Anvil Autos site, on Thursday 17th December 2020.

This historic site will give us a visible presence on the busy Otter roundabout, as well as providing us with much needed display space for our extensive selection of used cars. The workshop, once a blacksmith's (see history below), will be used for additional vehicle preparation space.

Initially we plan to operate the site from our main Honda dealership, being just 100 metres up the Guildford Road, using a video doorbell and cameras to monitor the site, but this may well change once business picks up post-pandemic.

Our managing director, Richard Roberts, explains:

We are delighted to be taking over the old blacksmiths on the Otter roundabout. Trident Garages has been associated with Ottershaw ever since it was established in 1963, and it is perhaps only surprising that we are only just taking over this site after 57 years!
